May 2020! Shelter in Place orders are still in effect across the planet. Exercising is challenging during this time. It’s especially challenging if you are accustomed to exercising in a gym or yoga studio. All of that wonderful equipment is so worth your membership dues.

Thankfully, your favorite teachers and instructors are thinking outside the box to provide students with at-home alternatives to group classes and individual training.

This is where the live, online class format has taken center stage! The live, online format is interesting. All of us are afforded a glimpse into each other’s lives. Dogs, cats, significant others, and kids may be wandering around. Unfinished projects may be staring at you from the other side of your camera. Distractions of daily life surround all of us during our practice.

Retreating to a gym or yoga studio for a regular workout or yoga practice allowed us to distance ourselves from those distractions. Oh, what a luxury we experienced in the past!

Cultivating an at-home yoga practice during this time of social distancing is worth the effort. It does not need to look like your practice at a studio. Let your dog and cat join you on your mat. Let your kids or significant other see you taking care of yourself. If you watch TV, bust out some yoga poses during commercials. Use the back of your couch for an upright version of downward facing dog. Balance in tree pose. Close your eyes and simply breathe for a few breath cycles.

During the month of May, I will be offering more live, online classes. Tuesday morning and Thursday evening will still be dedicated to donation based, Yoga for Everybody. Monday mornings will see a new Yoga HIIT class and every other Wednesday evening, Yoga Nidra will be offered. (See the schedule below for exact start dates of the new offerings.)

What is Yoga HIIT, you ask? Oh boy! It’s awesome! It’s yoga! It’s cardio! Yoga HIIT is a Yoga Shred inspired class meant to bring your heart rate up using the yoga poses and movements you already know and love. HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training. Originally developed for the Japanese Olympic Speed Skating Team, HIIT employs short bursts of energy sandwiched between very short intervals of rest. One round of HIIT last four minutes! Yoga HIIT comprises of a typical yoga warm up followed by three rounds of HIIT. We end with a yoga cool down and final resting pose. All of this fits into a 45 minute time slot. Yoga HIIT is an intense workout. It can be modified for all fitness levels from couch potatoes to Olympic athletes. You are in total control of your intensity level.

Yoga Nidra is a body scanning meditation. The entire practice is experienced laying down. Blankets, pillows, bolsters, eye pillow or scarf, and a comfortable location to lay down are all that is needed. Some people fall asleep during Yoga Nidra. That’s ok, however, the intention is to remain aware of your body throughout the practice.

The new classes are $9.00 per student. Your first class, of each type, is free!

In addition to live, online classes, I’m always available for live, online Private Yoga. Private Yoga is a wonderful way to address your personal needs. Maybe you have very tight hips and would like a personal sequence to assist with finding greater range of motion. Maybe you want to refine a particular pose. Maybe you simply want to practice at a time that is convenient for you. Schedule your complimentary, 30 minute Consultation to see if Private Yoga is right for you. See the “Offerings” tab for more information...or...send me an email.

I’m looking forward to seeing all of you online in May 2020. No in-person classes will be offered this month so we can all continue to keep each other safe.

Many Blessings

Love, Tracy

PS....The donation classes, Yoga for Everybody on Tuesday and Thursday, have raised $85.93 (after deducting fees for Zoom and credit card processing fees) since March 24, 2020!
