It’s holiday crunch time! We’re in the midst of craziness, whether you like it or not. Chaos surrounds us. The intention might be to slow down and savor each moment, however, life continues to march on at a relentless pace.

Stop for a moment.....

Close your eyes.....

Take a deep breath.....

Yeah...that’s better....

As the year winds down, it’s time to focus on the things that are most important: Yourself, family, children, pets, etc. This time of year, especially in Alaska, is perfect for meditating upon issues of utmost importance. The darkness seems to enhance our ability to look inwards. Soon, we will enjoy less than four hours of daylight.

Winter Solstice is rapidly approaching!

On December 21, 2019 at 7:20PM Alaska Time, we will have 3 hours, 40 minutes, 1 second of daylight in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Honestly, most of us in Fairbanks will experience even less due to the hills and trees blocking any direct sunlight. My own home has not had direct sunlight since the beginning of November!

The season of winter solstice is a time of renewal. It’s a time period encompassing a couple of months when we can look deep within ourselves.

Over the next couple of months, we will be exploring Sun Salutations. Traditionally, 108 Sun Salutations would be performed on the Solstice. We are going to break down the Sun Salutation sequence into manageable chunks during December and January. By the end of January, we will have completed 108 Sun Salutations.

I’d love to see all of you in class this month as we begin our exploration of Sun Salutations. Please head on over to the Pleasant Valley Community Center, in Two Rivers on most Tuesday’s at 11am. I will bring the equipment. All you need to do is show up. Did I mention that the class is free?

If you and a group of friends would like to host a private gathering which includes yoga, let me know. I can bring everything to your house or business. Those out-of-town guests might enjoy a fun yoga class after a long day of travel.
